Reality and Rupture
There is a malignant ideology that pervades our society today; wherein man considers that all that is old, traditional, and past, must be swept away in favor of a new approach to life. That all that has been before is somehow ignorant, outdated, or invalid; in light of the modern pursuit of the modern concept of "unity". This is true not only of our churches, but also of our secular society as well.
Millennia of Human history and civilization, law and order; we are urged to cast aside in order to "free" the modern man from the perceived bonds of the past. Yet if one casts aside what has gone before, is one truly Free? Consider the example of cultures that seek to erase what came before them. When the system that they establish on this principle is unleashed, it spends a vast amount of time and effort almost solely focused on suppressing the past and oppressing the people until they accept it.
This can be demonstrated in the Draconian establishment of the first Imperial dynasty of China; wherein the Emperor literally enslaved all who dared challenge his new system, and regularly sought out references to ancient literature and law in order to burn them; in favor of keeping his own. Yes indeed, China was united. They had that blessed unity which all men dream about in their madrigals to their love of socialism and communism; yet were the people of China better off than before? The answer would be a resounding NO.
Consider also the Roman Empire. The Romans conquered much of Europe and claimed to bring civilization with them; yet the burdens of their taxation, slavery, and demands of local cultures, caused undue suffering on the vast majority of their subjects outside of Italy.
Today we do not have people clamoring for emperors or kings to rule them; we have throngs of those who consider themselves "intelligent" demanding we replace what presently exists, with socialism/ communism. Yet even those two lofty ideals which they claim are superior to present systems, have in their own times failed in spectacular fashion. Look to Russia; which has only in recent years begun to emerge from its socialist empire, only to cling on to notions of its supremacy. Look to Cuba; where communism has brought nothing but death, destruction, and oppression of the poor. Look to Venezuela; where socialism has profited the people nothing but rigged elections and regime-sponsored gangs to assassinate the opposition.
Look then to the church. Where modern churchmen demand that we do away with sacred tradition, scripture, and faith; in favor of what modern man claims is SOOOOOO much better! I think that history teaches us that those who embrace every modern whim with the fervor of absolutism; are the manner of men who are the destroyers of society, rather than its saviors. This is why so many people in lofty positions, both civil and religious, favor the principles of modern innovation: because a people deprived of their heritage are not a people at all. A people with no identity, a people with no nation, a people with no faith, a people with no history; these are a people whom the unscrupulous can do with as they please. This is what the wicked in high places are driving society to- depriving mankind of its unique heritages, so that they may be driven as cattle to the slaughter; to deprive them of all, for the profit of those in control over them.
